From Youth Leadership to Global Strategy: Zambia’s Dual Representation at IGE and Forum 2025

The International Gold Event(IGE) 2025, held in Lagos, brought together Gold Award holders from across the world for a powerful three-day experience focused on leadership, learning and global connection.

Zambia was proudly represented by Chimwemwe Malokota and Wane Mutambo, who participated alongside fellow Gold Award holders from different countries. As representatives of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Zambia, they engaged in sessions on leadership, strategic communication, advocacy and cross-cultural exchange. The experience provided them with valuable insights and global perspectives that they have since brought back to strengthen and grow the Award in Zambia.

In addition to the youth participation at IGE, Zambia was also represented at the strategic level during the Forum. The Forum, convened by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, brought together National Directors, Board Chairs and senior leaders from around the world to reflect on the future direction of the Award, strengthen governance and deepen global collaboration. Zambia’s Board Chair and National Director, Martin Matibishi and Twaambo Chikoye respectively, participated in these high-level discussions. These discussions ensured that our country’s voice and experience contributed to shaping global priorities and strategies.

Together, both engagements reflected the full spectrum of Zambia’s involvement in the Award’s global ecosystem. From young people gaining international exposure and leadership skills at IGE, to senior leadership contributing to strategic dialogue at the Forum.

The experiences from both platforms continue to have a lasting impact, strengthening Zambia’s capacity to deliver meaningful youth development opportunities and reinforcing its commitment to empowering young people.
