Start your Award
Doing the Award is a personal challenge; it will push you to your limits and recognise and celebrate your achievements.’
Taking part in the Award requires commitment over time but it will give you the opportunity to develop the wider ‘soft’ – or universal – skills which help ensure you are ready for your world.
As an Award participant you will:
- Design your own Award
- Set your own goals and record your progress
- Make a positive impact on the lives of others through community service
- Learn valuable practical and social skills for career development
- Connect with other Award participants at home and abroad
How to get started: Register with your nearest operator: Search for the Award locations now.
Determine what level is right for you: The Award is divided into three levels; depending on your age and experience, you may choose to start with Bronze and work your way up, or jump straight to Silver or Gold. Your Award Leader will be able to explain more about the three levels and their requirements.
Registration fee: There is usually a small registration fee required to cover the cost of your record book and Award administration. This will be handled by your Award Operator.
Plan your Award: Once you have registered, your Award Leader will help you plan your programme of activities. You should also receive a record book/access to an Online Record Book to keep track of your activities.

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 24 can do the Duke of Ed. With the DofE, it doesn’t matter where you are located, or how you describe your background or circumstances – this is an Award for everyone!
At the DofE, we want to help you design your own program and achieve the Award in a way that matters to you. The DofE isn’t a competition or about being first, but instead, it’s about helping you to step outside your comfort zone and set new personal challenges, so you finish up feeling rewarded, accomplished and #WORLDREADY
You can start your DofE by doing the Bronze Award, and we encourage you to continue the challenge by completing your Silver and Gold Award. It’s up to you how you complete each Award Level – you can either choose to build on some of the activities and challenges you’ve already been doing, or you can take the chance at each stage to try something completely new!
While each level of the DofE Framework is made up of Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills, and an Adventurous Journey, you’ll start to spend more time on your chosen activities as you move through the Levels from Bronze to Silver and Gold. We’re inviting you to see how far you can go, but remember, every Level can bring incredible value to your personal development and life ambitions.
